Mama Africa - Miriam Makeba dies at age 76
Miriam Makeba, the South African singer, popularly known as "Mama Africa" dies in the early hours of Monday, the 10th of November, 2008 of a heart attack at The Pineta Grande clinic in Castel Volturno, near Caserta, the southern city of Naples in Italy.
Makeba collapsed on stage Sunday night after singing one of her most famous hits "Pata Pata" in a concert organized to support writer Roberto Saviano in his stand against the Camorra. her family said in a statement. Her grandson, Nelson Lumumba Lee, was with her as well as her longtime friend, Italian promoter Roberto Meglioli.
